Aizawl: The largest civil society organisation in Mizoram, the Young Mizo Association (YMA) will take steps to ensure that only genuine residents are enlisted in the state’s voter list in the ongoing special summary revision.
The central committee of YMA or Central YMA (CYMA) on Thursday sent letters to its branches, regional groups and district sub-headquarters across the state instructing them to take steps and be vigilant to ensure that only genuine citizens are registered in the ongoing special summary revision of voter list.
The CYMA’s instruction came at a time when more than 42,000 refugees and internally displaced people from Myanmar, Bangladesh and Manipur are taking shelter in Mizoram due to political unrest and violence in their countries and state.
The letters emphasized that only genuine citizens reaching the required age should be enlisted in the voter list.
The letters also instructed YMA members to file complaints with authorities if any registered voters are found to be foreigners or non-domicile residents to ensure that their names are removed from the state’s voter list.
The letter further said that at least six YMA members should take part in the electoral hearing in their respective areas to prevent any attempt to illegally enrol in the voter list.
