Aizawl: The Mizoram Police have arrested a man from Aizawl for allegedly making and selling fake documents using his smartphone.

The 27-year-old accused, identified as Lalneihpuia, is a resident of South Vanlaiphai in Hnahthial district, the police said in a statement.

It said that on October 25, the Vaivakawn police station received information stating that Lalneihpuia, who lived in Chawlhhmun locality of Aizawl at the time of his arrest, in a post on social media claimed of making fake documents.

Based on the information, a police team soon rushed to the Chawlhhmun area and apprehended the accused, it added.

After sustained interrogation, the accused, while confessing to the crime, stated that he has been making fake and duplicate documents using his smartphone since August this year, it said. 

Lalneihpuia admitted making about 20 such fake documents, including certificates and mark sheets of 10th and 12th board exams, driving licenses and Mizoram University grade cards in lieu of Rs 2,000 per forged documents, it added. 

The statement further said that a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 336(2) {forgery}and 336(3) {making false document or false electronic record} has been registered against the accused at the Vaivakawn police station for further investigation and legal action.
