Guwahati: A potential poaching attempt of a one-horned rhinoceros at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam has been foiled after two alleged poachers were arrested by the Assam Police and state forest department.

Based on intelligence input regarding some individuals planning to poach a rhino at the park, two persons – Rasidul Haque (28) and Siber Ali (36), both hailing from Biswanath district’s Sootea – were arrested by a joint team of Biswanath police and forest department.

During interrogation, the arrested duo revealed that they were planning to poach a rhino in connivance with a group at the park soon.

The duo also revealed that they had been planning, gathering and preparing tools and equipment for the poaching when they were nabbed.

Further investigation is in progress to bring out more details and apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the case.
