Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator Lalruatkima alleged that Mizoram Sports Minister Zodintluanga along with several Congress party youth members had squandered Indian Reserve Battalion’s ammunition by firing several rounds last Saturday at Mualvum 1st IR Battalion headquarters.

“The lavish lifestyle of the minister had robbed the police armoury. The ammunitions were bought with people’s money and we demand that Zodintluanga should repay,” MNF leader Lalruatkima said.

The Aizawl West II MLA further said it was a sad moment to learn that the Sport Minister lavishly wasted the State’s exchequer while the whole of Mizoram was mourning the sad demise of five persons including minors at a quarry landslide near Aizawl.

“While the whole of Mizoram was literally weeping for the sad demise of five persons near Zemabawk, it is really sad to learn that our Cabinet minister and his party men were enjoying lavishly. This sumptuous act at a time when natural disaster struck the State clearly shows that the minister has shown disregard to the people of Mizoram,” Lalruatkima said.

According to Lalruatkima, the minister and the Youth Congress members fired rounds of ammunition and toyed around the police premises with AK-47, INSAS Rifle, US-made M-4 Rifle, Glock pistol and 9 mm pistol. “These arms and ammunitions belonged to the police force and restricted from civilian use. But what has happened is a complete misuse of power,” Ruatkima alleged.
