His Indian made adventure bike was covered in mud. He dons biker gloves and is ready to take on more roads to complete his 28,000 km solo ride to raise awareness of rash driving and traffic rules. Sexagenarian Sharat Sharma has on Saturday arrived in Aizawl.
Sharma has already covered major states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram. After a day’s stop in Aizawl he will ride all the way to Agartala and then to Manipur.
A former journalist, who is in the process of compensating what he couldn’t do when he was young, has just one motive and that is to reach his destination.
“Fancy hotels and restaurants, meeting dignitaries, I have had enough of it. I just wanted to eat what the locals eat, stay where the locals stay. I just want to interact with the people and encourage them to follow their passions and to help me spread awareness about rash driving,” Sharma told Northeast Now.
“People often tell me I am too old to go for a solo ride. But I said age is just a number. By sticking to a disciplined lifestyle one can maintain his body and mind,” Sharma said.
Sharma said that he has just a handful of principles in his life, spreading awareness about the risk of reckless driving, staying fit and enjoying life’s journey.
Till Saturday Sharat Sharma has travelled 18,050 km, he started his epic ride from Haryana on March 18.
