Mizoram on Wednesday reported 880 new Covid19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 59,999, while one more death took the death toll to 218, a health department official said.

The new cases were reported from various districts with Aizawl district reporting the highest at 461, followed by Lunglei district at 118 and Kolasib district at 76, he said.

The single-day positivity rate was 9.15% as the fresh cases were detected from 9,604 samples, he said.

At least 176 children and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan were among the newly infected people, he said.

He said six patients have travel history while the rest 874 were locally infected.

The total percentage of Covid19 cases detected in the last 24 hours through RT-PCR test was 14.34, TreNat test (671), Rapid Antigen Test (8.63) and Fluorescent Immunoassay (FIA) test (15.38).

Of the 880 patients, 472 have developed symptoms of Covid19.

Mizoram now has 9,066 Covid19 active cases while 50,715 people have recovered from the infection, including 545 on Wednesday till 5 pm.

The recovery rate among Covid19 patients is 84.52% and the death rate is 0.36%.

The state has conducted tests on more than 8.73 samples till date.

According to the state immunisation officer, over 6.55 lakh people have been vaccinated till Tuesday, of which 2.37 lakh have received full doses of Covid19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, state nodal officer and official spokesperson on Covid19 Dr. Pachuau Lalmalsawma said at least 2,917 Covid19 cases have so far been detected in the ongoing mass testing drive, which began from mid-July in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) and adjoining villages.

He said a total of 97,372 samples have been tested during the mass testing drive conducted in 62 neighbourhoods in Aizawl and 13 adjoining areas.
