Mizoram churches to open on weekends from February

The Mizoram government has decided to re-open churches on Saturdays and Sundays only at noon starting from February 1.

According to the new unlock guidelines issued on Saturday, churches are allowed to open with 50 per cent sitting capacity or 200 attendees on every Saturday and Sunday.

Churches in Mizoram have been closed since March 22 last year to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Regular classes for students of classes X and XII, who will be appearing in the board exams, will also resume from January 22.

However, any student intending to get admitted in a hostel must produce a ‘RAgT Negative Certificate’ declaring him to be Covid-19 negative and the certificate must be obtained within 96 hours before entry into the hostel.

Higher institutions for undergraduate and postgraduate students will be allowed to open from February.

Training or coaching institutes will also open with either 50 per cent sitting capacity or not more than 50 students from now onwards, the order said.

The government has also raised the maximum number of attendees in funeral and marriage reception has been raised from 35 to 100.

The number of attendees in indoor games, cinema hall, auditorium, community hall and social events (indoor) has been fixed at 50.

However, games and sports practices and social events held outdoors will be allowed with 100 attendees.

In any function related to organization or party, the limited attendee is 100 but deputy commissioners can allow up to 150 attendees by special permission.

All business shops, establishments and commercial activities will function normally under strict Covid-19 protocols.

Any individual, who is returning from other parts of the country, will have to be placed under quarantine at designated facilities, but those who produce RT-PCR or TreuNat labs negative test certificate not older than four days, will be exempted from the quarantine protocol.

Any state residents, who go outside and return to the state within 4 days, need not to go for quarantine.

However, any person returning from Europe will be placed under quarantine at designated facilities.

Mizoram on Sunday reported 8 new Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 4,322.

The number of active cases now stands at 85, while 4,228 people have recovered from the virus.

The recovery rate is 97.83 per cent.

The disease has so far claimed nine lives in the state.
