At least 26 people, including 5 Assam Rifles personnel in Mizoram, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, pushing the state’s caseload to 1,786, an official said on Friday.
Of the 26 cases, 24 were reported from Aizawl district and one each from Kolasib and Mami districts, the official said.
He said that 23 cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), 2 at Kolasib and Mamit district hospitals with the help of TrueNat machines and one person was diagnosed at Lengpui airport through Rapid Antigen Test.
Of the 26 patients, 7 have contracted the virus through positive contact during contact tracing and the rest 19 have returned from other states.
The official said that 5 Assam Rifles personnel have been placed under quarantine at Assam Rifles’ facility at Zokhawsang on the outskirts of Aizawl since before they tested positive for Covid-19.
There are 681 active cases in the state of which 553 belonged to Aizawl district.
Altogether 1,105 people have already recovered from the virus.
There are 11 districts in Mizoram, of which Aizawl district reported the highest Covid-19 cases at 1,206, followed by Kolasib district at 215.
Lunglei district reported 183 cases, Siaha district -31, Champhai district-17, Serchhip district-36, Lawngtlai district-40, Mamit district-38, Khawzawl district-4 Hnahthial district-5 and Saitual district reported 11 cases so far.
The state has not reported any fatality due to COVID-19 till date.
A total of 68,340 samples have been tested until Thursday evening, the health department said.
