The COVID-19 fatalities in Assam rose to 608 after 11 more persons succumbed to the disease on Thursday, while 2,091 new cases took the state tally to 1, 65582, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Of the new deaths, two each were reported from Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, Kamrup (R) and Dibrugarh district, and one each from Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Golaghat, Udalguri and Karimganj.

The 2,091 new positive cases in the state include 452 from Kamrup (M), 191 from Jorhat, 136 from Dibrugarh and 127 from Golaghat.

The new cases were detected out of 28,993 tests conducted during the last 24 hours.

Altogether 25, 32,726 samples have been tested in the state so far.

He said that 2,43 Covid-19 patients were discharged on Thursday and the recovery rate is currently 7.21 per cent.

The state now has 32,262 active cases, while 13, 2709 patients have recovered from the disease and three migrated out of the state.
