In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Assam Rifles troops deployed in Mizoram nabbed two drug peddlers, including a woman, along with a consignment of heroin.

The operation was carried out by the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles on Sunday.

Along with the two drug peddlers, the Assam Rifles team was able to seize a consignment of heroin weighing 94 grams.

The operation was conducted at Bawngkawn Shalom Venglai in Aizawl, the state capital of Mizoram, according to a statement issued by Assam Rifles.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles, state excise and narcotics department based on specific information, the statement said.

“Two persons were apprehended for possessing the contraband worth Rs 42.3 lakh,” the statement said.

In another seizure, Assam Rifles and the customs department seized 35 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes at Mualkawi area in Champhai district along the Indo-Myanmar border on Sunday.

The consignment of smuggled foreign-origin cigarettes, worth Rs 58.5 lakh, was handed over to the customs department, Assam Rifles sources said.

Earlier on March 26, the Assam Rifles troops jointly with Mizoram Police apprehended a drug peddler from Kawnpui Vengthar in Kolasib district.

During the operation, the joint operation team was able to seize 2,41,900 Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 12.09 crore.

“AssamRifles jointly with Mizoram Police, apprehended a drug peddler from Kawnpui Vengthar (Kolasib district) on 26 Mar recovering 2,41,900 Nos of Methamphetamine tablets worth approx. Rs 12.09 Crores,” Assam Rifles tweeted.
