A considerable number of youngsters are getting hooked to drug abuse in Mizoram.

The Assam Rifles in collaboration with the state police and different departments concerned has been conducting different operations to prevent the smuggling of drugs.

Cross-border smuggling of drugs along the Indo-Myanmar international border is a huge problem.

Mizoram in the past few years has emerged as a major drug trafficking route because of its proximity to the Golden Triangle.

The Golden Triangle refers to the area where the borders of Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet and is Southeast Asia’s main opium-producing region.

It is also one of the oldest routes taken by drug suppliers to supply narcotics to Europe and North America.
