In their continued efforts against smuggling activities, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters IG Assam Rifles (East), recovered 91 gm of heroin at Thuampui in Mizoram.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday by a joint team of Assam Rifles and excise & narcotics department on the basis of specific information.
It is estimated that the recovered heroin would cost approximately Rs 40,95,000.
“As the excise & narcotics department seized the contraband item and detained one individual,” Assam Rifles said.
Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border.

The Assam Rifles troops, deployed in Mizoram, continue to carry out operations against narcotic drugs and smuggled goods, jointly with the excise & narcotics department of Mizoram.
On March 9, Assam Rifles troops intercepted and recovered illegal consignment of smuggled goods worth approx Rs 1.3 crore in Champhai district.
The Assam Rifles troops later handed over the carrier and recovered items to the customs department of Mizoram.
