Mizoram Health Minister Lal Thanzara on Friday lauded the women folk of the State as the ‘backbone’ of the society.

He was addressing the 44th rising day of Mizo Hmeichhia Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the lone women voluntary organization of Mizoram at Electric Veng in Aizawl.

He called upon all the women of the State to be good citizens apart from being good mothers and good daughters.

Lal Thanzara said women are the harbinger of peace and harmony not only in a particular family but in society at large.

He further asserted that women of the State have progressed in the field of education apart from other professional fields.

Lal Thanzara further said that the Lal Thanhawla Government has been making efforts to empower and uplift the status of women in every sphere of life.

He also said the State Government has implemented the Mizo Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance Act to protect the rights of women and uplift their socio-economic status.

The MHIP day was also celebrated at several places across the State.

Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu, the lone woman minister of Mizoram, also graced the celebrations at Biate, the state’s cleanest town in Champhai district.

Special functions were held at several places which were attended by ministers, government officials and civil society leaders.

Cleanliness drive was also organized at several places on the occasion.

As it was a public holiday, all government offices and educational institutions remained closed for the day.
