Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has ruled out joining a formal opposition alliance but expressed openness to collaborating with other parties on specific issues in Meghalaya.

Responding to a letter from Meghalaya’s Leader of Opposition, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh reiterated the party’s preference for maintaining its distinct identity.

“We are always open to working together with other opposition parties based on issues,” Myrboh stated, highlighting the party’s interest in issue-based cooperation despite declining a formal alliance.

VPP is likely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections independently. Further, Myrboh confirmed the party’s intention to “fight the Lok Sabha polls independently,” solidifying its stance on solo participation.

It may be mentioned that nearly all the parties in Meghalaya are set to field their candidates individually.
