Shillong: The Shillong Ropeway Project in Meghalaya, the state’s first passenger ropeway, is gearing up for a speedy start.
According to reports, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh announced that applications submitted for the project’s tender will be opened by mid-June.

The project, approved by the Meghalaya Cabinet in September 2022, will connect Lawsohtun to Shillong Peak at an estimated cost of Rs 138 crore.

A slight delay occurred as a corrigendum is being issued to address aspects not included in the initial draft expression of interest.

Following the opening of tenders in June, the project is expected to be awarded to the selected firm by July, paving the way for construction to begin.
The Shillong Ropeway service will commence at the Madan Laban terminal and transport passengers towards Lumparing and the Shillong Peak viewing platform.

The initial phase will involve 12 cables, and the engineering will adhere to stringent European standards.
The project received the green light from the state Cabinet in September 2023.
