Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has assured action against the culprits involved in the killing of two non-tribals at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills district.
Two persons were killed by unidentified assailants at Ichamati in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on Wednesday after a protest rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) called by the Khasi Students’ Union.

Chief Minister Sangma said that Meghalaya police have identified some suspects.
“Police are actively searching for those involved. We will follow the law and ensure justice is served,” Sangma said on Saturday.
This comes amidst simmering tensions at Ichamati in Meghalya’s East Khasi Hills, following the brutal murders on Wednesday. The area remains on edge, with residents fearful of retaliation.

The Chief Minister’s comments follow criticism for his initial silence on the issue. Sangma, known for his social media presence, had not addressed the Ichamati killings despite actively campaigning online.
East Khasi Hills Police confirmed no arrests have been made so far. Bodies of Esan Sing and Sujit Dutta, both non-tribals, were found in Ichamati and Dalda under the Shella Assembly constituency along India-Bangladesh border.
