Guwahati: A student of Tezpur University was found dead inside his hostel room on Wednesday, in an apparent case of suicide, sending shockwaves through the university campus.
The deceased was identified as Jyotisman Boruah, a fifth-semester student at the university’s Integrated M.Sc. Chemistry programme. He was found hanging inside his room at Lachit Hostel.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. There has been no immediate information indicating what may have led to the incident, while fellow students said they were unaware of any specific reason behind his decision.
News of Boruah’s death prompted an outpouring of grief among students, with several taking to social media to remember him as a gentle, courteous and well-mannered person.
In view of the incident, the university authorities have cancelled classes scheduled for Thursday.
