The Indian Navy carrying out the rescue operation along with different agencies at the illegal coal mine at Ksan in Meghalaya  is unlikely to retrieve the miner’s body that has been spotted without disintegration.

The detected miner’s body has blue jeans and red T-shirt on it.

The Indian Navy rescue team said that identification of the bodies now could be possible only by cloth, rings or locket etc. on the body

Spokesman of the multi-agencies rescue operation R Susngi said this on Saturday and added that the family members expressed their wishes that the body be retrieved without much disintegration.

“The Indian Navy are trying their best to pull the body by their R O V after exploring every angles, photographs but retrieving the body without disintegration is not possible,” said Susngi while adding that they are on the process of pulling the body while at the same time search is on in nearby rat holes for other miners.

The family members of some victims from Assam and Meghalaya were shown the video of the body on Thursday after the ROM detected it.

The rescuers were asking the family members to come and identify the bodies through the colour of cloths the victims have been wearing or through the rings or locket etc. “The body which we have detected was wearing a blue jeans and red T shirt,” said the rescuers.

In a joint operation between the Indian Navy and the NDRF, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) had detected a body 200 metres from the main shaft. After spotting the body, rescue officials are still undecided on retrieving the decomposing body.

It may be mentioned here that at least 15 miners were trapped inside the coal mine at Ksan in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district on December 13 after gushing waters from a nearby flooded the mine with the miners still working inside it.
