Guwahati: In a significant setback to the Regional United Democratic Party (UDP) in Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, some prominent party leaders have announced their exit from the party to join the National People’s Party (NPP).

Donbok Khymdeit, the Working President of the UDP State Wing and Ri Bhoi District Unit along with several top UDP party leaders and members switch sides to the NPP.

Khymdeit clarified that the decision to leave UDP and discontinue coordination was reached independently by these leaders, devoid of any issues or disruptions within the UDP party structure.

Among those making the switch, Khymdeit, the outgoing president of UDP Ri Bhoi District, along with former UDP MDC of Nongpoh, Rona Khyndeit, and several other leaders, have officially joined the National People’s Party (NPP).

They will formally join the NPP at Sajer, Nongpoh in the presence of NPP “national leaders” on Friday.

The list of departing leaders and party workers who resigned from UDP on Wednesday includes prominent figures such as Bah Donbok Khymdeit, Bah Raphael Massar, Bah Rangkynsai R Makdoh, and others, totalling 31 members.
