The Meghalaya High Court on Monday confirmed that five of its officials have tested positive for COVID19.

The High Court clarified that all its guests have strictly adhered to the standard Covid health protocols determined by the state government, including getting themselves tested immediately on their arrival in Shillong and maintaining all quarantine/social distance norms.

A statement issued by the registrar general of the High Court said five of its officials have tested COVID19 positive and are following the advice of medical professionals and the state health department.

“These officials are asymptomatic and otherwise healthy. For the present, they are undergoing self isolation at the High Court Guest House. They are being monitored round the clock,” the statement said.

“Owing to the nature of their duties, a thorough enquiry was conducted and after such enquiry, it has been ascertained and confirmed that they have not come into contact with any other person inside/outside the High Court,” it added.

The High Court administration in a recent circular announced that the High Court premises would remain closed for three days with effect from August 10-12.

“The need to sanitise the High Court premises arose since it is a public place so that the strictest COVID health protocol is adhered to, not only in order to protect the officers and employees of the High Court, but also the members of the public at large,” the statement said.

On rumours floating around, particularly in the social media, the registrar general warned that all those responsible for spreading rumours will be proceeded against, and appropriately dealt with in accordance with law, once they are identified.
