A personal security officer (PSO) of Meghalaya health minister AL Hek was injured after his handgun (9mm browning) went off accidentally in Shillong on Tuesday.
The incident happened at around 2 pm in the premises of State Central Library when the PSO was sitting inside the car waiting for the minister.

Minister Hek was attending the 48th Megahalaya Day function at U Soso Tham auditorium in Shillong.
Sources said the PSO, Wansan Wahlang, who was sitting on the front seat (left side) along with the minister’s driver, kept the handgun between his thighs.
The handgun suddenly went off injuring him critically.

An unconfirmed report, however, suggested that PSO Wahlang was injured after bullet pierced out his left thigh while he was cleaning the handgun.
The same bullet pierced out the body of the minister’s car.
After piercing out the car, the bullet hit the ground and bounced back towards another VIP vehicle parked opposite minister’s car.
Fortunately, the no other people standing near the minister’s car was injured in the incident.
The PSO was immediately rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.
Hek also left the function and visited the PSO in the hospital.
