Meghalaya coal mining mishap: BJP demands Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui’s resignation, Health Minister AL Hek backs Rymbui

The Meghalaya BJP has demanded resignation of State Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui over the unfortunate mishap in a coal mine in East Jaintia Hills district on January 22. 

As many as 6 miners were killed in the incident.

The Meghalaya State BJP has demanded Lakmen Rymbui’s resignation for allegedly failing to curb illegal coal mining in the State. 

The BJP has also demanded for an independent inquiry into the deaths of the 6 miners in a coal in Rymbai Elaka of East Jaintia Hills on January 22. 

“We demand Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui’s resignation. Let an independent inquiry take place to find out the facts,” Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie had said.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Health Minister and senior BJP leader in the State, AL Hek has extended his support to under fire Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui. 

AL Hek said that Lakmen Rymbui cannot be blamed for the mishap in the coal mine in East Jaintia Hills last month, that led to the death of 6 miners. 

“One cannot squarely blame the Home Minister for the incident. I have no doubt on the capabilities of our Home Minister,” AL Hek said. 

Notably, this statement of AL Hek, who is a State Minister and a senior BJP leader is in contrary to the statement and demand of Meghalaya BJP President Ernest Mawrie.
