“Don’t play with the tribal people of Meghalaya,” warned Ri Bhoi Youth Organization (RBYF) on Wednesday at a public meeting at Umsning playground.

The meeting was organised to generate awareness on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

“Scrap CAA and implement inner line permit in the state,” RBYF further added.

Not just RBYF, but several other organisations of Meghalaya have warned both the Centre and the Meghalaya government to not play with the tribal people.

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), and Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) are some of the organisations to have issued the warning.

Speaking at the gathering, FKJGP president, Welbirth Rani lashed out at the Centre and the Meghalaya government.

“They have hurt the sentiments of the people of Meghalaya through CAA,” Rani said.

“We will never accept CAA and we will never allow it to be implemented,” Rani reiterated.

RBYF president Bipul Thangkhiew, KSU general secretary Donald Thabah and HNYF central vice president Scan Rani also attended the meeting.
