Continuing with its initiative of ‘Reaching out – beyond the call of duty’, the 6th MLP Battalion participated in a legal awareness programme on police-public relations at Umsning in Ri-Bhoi district.

The programme was organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ri-Bhoi district from 11 am-1 pm on Tuesday at the Dorbar hall of Nongthymai village, Umsning.

Thirty female members of various Self Help Groups (SHGs), which have formed the Nangsanbha Village Organisation, participated in the legal awareness progamme.

The programme was chaired by Kerdalin Jana, president and Phibalawan Makri, secretary of the Nangsanbha Village Organisation.

Franky Nongbet, advocate member of the District Legal Services Authority and Lakador Syiem, Commandant of the 6th MLP Battalion participated in the programme as resource persons.

While Nongbet spoke on the First Intimation Report (FIR), right of arrested persons, right to bail, right to legal aid, MPS officer Syiem spoke on the police-public relations and the efforts to bridge the gap.

“The progarmme concluded with a question-answer session where a number of doubts were cleared by the resource persons,” said sources.
