SHILLONG: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Idashisha Nongrang, on Monday (May 20), was sworn in as the new director general of police (DGP) for Meghalaya.

Her appointment is historic as she became the first woman to lead Meghalaya police force.

Nongrang, a 1992 batch IPS officer, previously served as the director general (DG) of civil defence and home guard in Meghalaya.

She succeeded Dr LR Bishnoi as Meghalaya DGP, who retired on Sunday (May 19).

She had previously also served as the acting DGP of Meghalaya prior to the appointment of LR Bishnoi.

Nongrang’s tenure as Meghalaya DGP will span two years, from May 20, 2024, to May 19, 2026.
