The district administration of East Khasi Hills may impose fine on any citizen, who is found without a face mask.
This has come to light in a letter issued by the East Khasi Hills district administration to the chairman/president of Police Bazar Welfare Society in Shillong.

The letter, issued by the incident commander, in-charge of Sadar Area Zone-II of East Khasi Hills, said “as mandated by the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases COVI D-19 Regulations, 2020, I am to inform you that spot fining for not wearing masks will be enforced strictly henceforth.”
The district administration has asked the chairman/president of Police Bazar Welfare Society to create awareness among the public about wearing face mask to avoid spread of COVID19.
The instruction has been issued due to recent surge in COVID19 cases in the country.

“In this connection, you are requested to create awareness and make regular public announcement in your respective locality from time to time to make people aware a the need to wear mask preventing the spread of Covid-19, in view of the recent surge in cases in the country,” the letter said.
The Police Bazar Welfare Society has been requested to extend co-operation for public health and safety.
