The district administration of East Khasi Hills in an order on Wednesday imposed night curfew in the district till October 31 or until further orders.

The East Khasi Hills district magistrate, Isawanda Laloo, issued an order in this regard on Wednesday.

The order is in “partial modification” to the office order No C&S 3/2009/PT.III/18 issued on October 18, 2020.

The night curfew has been clamped in view of the “prevailing situation concerning COVID-19 in the state and in order to put in place preventive and mitigation measures so that pandemic of COVID-19 is contained, reduced and eliminated in East Khasi Hills district and Meghalaya”.

The East Khasi Hills district magistrate Laloo in the order said: “Therefore, I Miss Isawanda Laloo, IAS, District magistrate, East Khasi Hills district, Shillong, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under section 144 Cr.P.C. read together with Regulation  3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 do hereby promulgate night curfew in East Khasi Hills district.”

According to the order, the night curfew will remain effective from 10 pm to 5 am till October 31 or until further orders.

“However, exemptions granted to officials, non-officials and essential services as per the above-mentioned order will continue,” the order further said.
