Two Border Security Force (BSF) troopers from Meghalaya Frontier headquarters, who have recovered from COVID19, donated their convalescent plasma in Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Assam.

“Over 200 BSF personnel, who have recovered from the viral infection, are also ready to donate their plasma in Meghalaya,” BSF Meghalaya Frontier spokesman U K Nayal informed.

Nayal informed that the two recovered COVID19 patients, namely constable PP Saikia and constable MD Rasidul Karim of 97 Bn, Ftr HQ BSF Meghalaya have donated their convalescent plasma at GMCH on August 20.

Both the BSF personnel are currently on temporary duty in Assam.

Meghalaya has no plasma bank so far.

Earlier, the Meghalaya government decided to consult with the NEIGHRIMS for setting up a plasma bank, but nothing concrete has come out so far.

“Whenever we receive any call from North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) or Meghalaya health department, our troopers, who have recovered from COVID19 are ready to donate their convalescent plasma,” he said.

“The COVID19 pandemic is the defining global health crisis of this time and it is the greatest challenge we are facing today. Since its emergence, BSF was also not left untouched by the virus,” the BSF official said.
