The BJP in Meghalaya has informed that it still stands by its demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against alleged corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

Speaking on the matter Meghalaya BJP President Ernest Mawrie said that the State unit of the BJP has not given in on its demand for a CBI probe against alleged corruption in GHADC and JHADC and instead it is waiting for the appropriate time.

“We have not forgot demand. We still demand a CBI probe into alleged corruption in the two District Councils of Meghalaya – GHADC and JHADC,” said Meghalaya BJP President Ernest Mawrie.

Citing the example of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), an ‘ally’ of the BJP in Assam, Mawrie said that despite being an alliance partner of the BJP, the saffron party did not refrain from going all out against it in the recently concluded Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in Assam over allegations of corruption.

“We are in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), but that doesn’t mean we will remain silent on corruption charges,” Mawrie added.

It may be mentioned here that the BJP in Meghalaya has been slamming the National People’s Party (NPP), which leads the MDA Government in recent months over charges of corruption in GHADC and JHADC and on the issue of rampant alleged illegal coal trade in the State.
