SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma addressed concerns regarding reports of an anti-missionary school campaign in neighbouring Assam, stating that the government will verify the information before initiating discussions with authorities in Dispur.

Responding to a zero-hour notice raised by UDP legislator Mayralborn Syiem, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma expressed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of citizens amid reports of a radical Hindu group’s campaign against missionary schools.

He highlighted plans to inform Superintendents of Police (SPs) and the Meghalaya director general of police (DGP) to bolster patrolling efforts and instil confidence among the populace.

Sangma emphasized the need for verification before responding to the situation, stating, “It would be incorrect for me to respond without verifying the fact.”

The Meghalaya CM underscored the importance of maintaining open communication channels with Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and ensuring regular dialogue between the chief secretaries of both states.

Asserting the Meghalaya government’s proactive stance, CM Sangma assured that they would not overlook any potential threats and would remain vigilant in safeguarding the interests and security of the people.
