Assam Manipur Helicopter Service gains Rs 90 crore revenue since launch

The Meghalaya government, which is at presently operating helicopter service on the Shillong-Guwahati-Tura route, is also planning to provide helicopter service in other districts of Meghalaya.

The state government has decided to launch the service for catering to the needs of the people especially to attend to emergency needs when disaster occurred.

At present, helicopter operated by Pawan Hans is available from Guwahati to Shillong and Tura.

From Shillong, the helicopter takes off from the Advance Landing Ground (ALG) at Upper Shillong.

Meghalaya transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the matter is still at the discussion stage.

According to the Meghalaya minister, with Meghalaya hosting the National Games in 2022, there is a felt need to also operate helicopter service in other districts of the state, not only for VIPs, but also keeping in mind the need to attend to emergency situations especially when there is a disaster.

He said that the government is planning to build one helipad in East Khasi Hills district, Jaiñtia Hills and Garo Hills.
