Even after a month, the rescuers in Meghalaya have failed to trace the trapped miners at the coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district.

Now scientists from CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI) from Hyderabad on Monday used a tomography survey of the mine to locate the trapped miners.

Senior scientist from CSIR- NGRI Dr. Dewashish Kumar carried on electric tomography survey to find some details while Dr. Niraj Kumar and his team of Scientists from Gravity and Magnetic Group of the CSIR-NGRI are also working on the site to get some additional information about the miners using technology.

The Coal India limited, the Kirlosker Brothers and the Fire Service Odisha have been working on their pumps to pump out the water. The water level of the mine has however, not receded to the expected level.

“The pumps used by the rescuers have been pumping million litres of water from the different shafts of the coal mine. However, the water level is yet to recede to the desired level. The Indian Navy team has also been carrying out the searches using heir UWROV,” said East Jaintia Hills DC Federick M. Dopth.

A total of 15 miners got trapped inside the coal mine when the mine got flooded on December 13. The rescue operation which was started immediately by the NDRF and SDRF was joined by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Fire Service Odisha and the Indian Navy.
