Curfew will be lifted from 8 am to 3 pm on Sunday in areas under Lumdiengjri police station and Cantonment Beat House of violence-hit Shillong in Meghalaya.

East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, Peter S Dkhar on Saturday night said that it was necessary to lift the curfew to allow people to buy goods and other requirements.

Normal life was affected as curfew is in force since Friday morning in areas which include the whole of Jaïaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge).

The curfew was in force without any relaxation on Saturday after stone pelters continued to gather in Mawkhar, Motphran and Jaïaw areas and pelted stones at police personnel.

Though curfew was in force, the stone pelters refused to retreat since Thursday evening. Deployment of security force will continue in the area.
