Imphal: The Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur announced on Saturday the decision to conduct repolling at 11 polling stations in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency on April 22.

This action comes in response to a directive from the Election Commission, declaring the previous polls held on April 19 at these stations null and void.

The affected polling stations include Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in the Khurai constituency, four in Kshetrigao, and one in Thongju in the Imphal East district, as well as three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam in the Imphal West district.

Reports of firing, intimidation, and destruction of EVMs, along with allegations of booth capturing, surfaced from conflict-hit Manipur during the polling, which saw a turnout of 72 per cent in both the Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur constituencies on Friday.

Earlier, the Congress had demanded repolling in 47 polling stations, citing allegations of booth capturing and election rigging.

Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra stated that the party had lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, urging repolling in 36 polling stations in the Inner Manipur constituency and 11 in the Outer Manipur constituency.

Manipur went for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on Friday. Voting was held in all 32 assembly segments of the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency and 15 assembly segments of the Outer Manipur (ST) parliamentary constituency. A total of 68.62 per cent voter turnout, 72.32 per cent in Inner Manipur and 61.98 per cent in Outer Manipur, was recorded at 5 pm on the day of voting.
