Imphal: Security forces arrested five suspected insurgent cadres in separate operations across Manipur on Tuesday, according to officials.

A joint team of the Imphal East and Imphal West Commando units and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested two brothers from Kongpal Kongkham Leikai in Imphal East.

The two were identified as Sheleibam Tomtin Meitei, alias Tomba, 27, and Sheleibam Jagatshyam Meitei, alias Ibungo, 35. The operation was based on intelligence from the CRPF Manipur and Nagaland Sector, which was corroborated by local commando units.

Officials said the two were involved in the August 22 firing incident targeting Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel at Lamlong Bazar and the September 10 attack on CRPF personnel at Khonghampat.

Their father, Sheleibam Yaima, had earlier been arrested in connection with the Khonghampat attack, according to officials.

Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle with 43 live rounds, a 9mm pistol with three live rounds, a car, an auto-rickshaw and a scooter during the operation.

In a separate operation, Tengnoupal district police and the Assam Rifles arrested an alleged People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadre near Border Pillar 86.

The arrested person was identified as 30-year-old Nongthongbam Manithoi, alias Ningjaba, of Awangpoksang Khullen in Imphal West district.

In Kakching, a joint team of the Kakching Commandos and the 43rd and 46th Assam Rifles arrested an alleged Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) cadre under Hiyanglam Police Station. The arrested person was identified as 27-year-old Elangbam Langam Singh of Hiyanglam Warakhong Manung.

Separately, the Imphal West and Thoubal Commando units arrested an alleged People’s Liberation Army (PLA/RPF) operative near Langjing CRPF Gate No. 1 under Patsoi Police Station. The person was identified as 22-year-old Tokpam Tyson Meetei of Naharup Awang Leikai.

In Bishnupur, the Commando unit arrested an alleged KYKL cadre at Kumbi Terakhong. The person was identified as 43-year-old Pukhrambam Joychandra Singh of Wangoo Sabal Mayai Leikai.

Security officials said Joychandra Singh was involved in alleged extortion activities in Bishnupur district.
