Guwahati: The Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam. The date of voting for the Barpeta Lok Sabha Constituency Election 2024 is 7 May (Phase 3) announced by the Election Commission of India in March.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the total electorate counts in the Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency stood at 19,49,873, with 9,88.570 male voters, and 9,61,303 female voters.
The Barpeta parliamentary constituency comprises ten Assembly segments, namely Abhayapuri, Bongaigaon, Bhowanipur–Sorbhog, Barpeta, Pakabetbari, Bajali, Hajo–Sualkuchi, Barkhetri, Nalbari and Tihu.
This is a seat from where BJP has not been able to win even once. In the last 15 to 20 years the competition has been mostly between the Congress party and the AIUDF.

Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the fifth President of India, contested and won from Barpeta on a Congress ticket consecutively between 1967 and 1971.
He served as the President of India from 1974 to 1977.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress Abdul Khaleq won this seat with 645,173 votes. AGPs Kumar Deepak Das was second with 504,866 votes and AIUDF candidate Rafiqul Islam was third with 248,667 votes.
For the first time, AIUDF opened its account on this Congress stronghold. In the 16th Lok Sabha election, AIUDF candidate Sirajuddin Ajmal defeated BJP candidate Chandramohan Patowary by 42,341 votes.
Sirajuddin received 394,702 votes. BJP candidate Chandramohan, who came second, got a total of 352,361 votes.
Congress candidate Ismail Hussain, who came third, received a total of 277,802 votes.
