The newly inaugurated tunnel number 4 of Jiribam-Imphal railway line

Tunnel No 4 of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line was inaugurated by Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav at Marangching village on Saturday afternoon.

Northeast Frontier Railway General Manager Sanjve Roy, COA/C/I/MLG Mohan Lal and VCCL North East Vertical Head SK Maulali were also present at the event.

The tunnel is 2265 metres long and it is the second-longest tunnel connecting Tupul and Imphal. There are seven tunnels in total.

The remaining tunnels would be completed soon, said Yadav.

“Even though the target to complete the tunnels was 2020, however, work has been delayed due to the geographical remoteness and the hilly terrain,” Yadav added.

He further informed that around 90 per cent of the work has been completed.

“We are confident of completing the work by the new deadline of March 2022,” Yadav added.
