Imphal: In the wake of a recent grenade attack, security forces in Manipur have stepped up counter-insurgency operations, arresting six suspected militants, including a woman from different outfits over the past 48 hours.
The intensified crackdown follows a blast at the residence of Yumkhaibam Homendro, Chief Engineer of the Stateโs Water Resources Department. According to police, a hand grenade, allegedly hurled by members of an underground group, exploded at the gate of his residence in Malom Tuliyaima under Nambol police station in Imphal West district at around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The explosion caused partial damage to the gate, but no casualties were reported.
Subsequently, security forces launched a series of coordinated operations across multiple districts. During the drives, personnel recovered two live rounds, a Honda Activa, incriminating documents, and six mobile phones along with SIM cards.
In Imphal East district, three cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist PartyโPeopleโs War Group (KCP-PWG) were apprehended from separate locations. The arrested individuals were identified as Moirangthem Jiten Singh alias Nanao (46), Mutum Ranjan Singh alias Mangal (46), and Thokchom Devarani Devi (43).
Meanwhile, in a separate joint operation, two cadres of the proscribed Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK)โThoudam Jingko Singh alias Sanathoi (25) and Taorem Arunkumar Singh (32), were arrested from Thoubal and Imphal West districts.
In another operation, security personnel apprehended an active cadre of the Peopleโs Liberation Army (PLA), identified as Elangbam Abinash alias Rakesh (21), from the Singtom area under Sugnu police station in Kakching district.
Police said all the arrested individuals, along with the seized materials, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action.
