Imphal: Security forces in Manipur arrested five insurgents with firearms, a grenade, and Rs 2.6 lakh in cash following intensified anti-insurgency operations in Imphal East and Imphal West districts on Friday, officials reported on Saturday.
Security forces apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Moirangthem Hemba Singh (26) @ Laiba of Pungdongbam Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district.
He was arrested along with a mobile phone from Thangal Bazar, after police bomb experts detected and defused a hand grenade, accompanied by a warning note reading โKCP PWG Last Warningโ, at the gate of a petrol pump located in Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Imphal West.
Police reported that four active members of the United National Liberation Front Pambei (UNLF-P) were also arrested from the New Checkon area in Imphal East. They were involved in extortion from schools and colleges in the valley area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Koijam Sunder Meitei (29) of Khewa Phurju, Imphal East; Thangjam Suraj Singh (27) @ Lukhoi of Khewa Phurju Mayai Leikai, Imphal East; Sanjrambam Ravi Singh (30) of Yumnam Patlou Awang Leikai, Imphal East; and Ningombam Nepon Meitei (30) of Khewa Phurju Awang Leikai, Imphal East.
One 7.62 pistol with a magazine loaded with seven rounds and a holster, one .32 pistol with a magazine loaded with 10 rounds, a black Mahindra Scorpio along with its key, cash amounting to Rs 2,60,000/-, six mobile phones, two arms licences (suspected to be fake), two wallets, three Aadhaar cards, and a diary containing the extortion list of schools for the UNLF-P organization were recovered from their possession.
Reports added that further investigation is underway.
