Residents of Chakpikarong in Manipur’s Chandel district have taken out a rally against the consumption of drugs in the state.
Many people across Manipur are joining hands to lend their support to the state government’s “War on Drugs” campaign to root out the drug menace.
Residents of many villages in the bordering districts are also engaged in destroying large areas of poppy cultivation.
Many cultivators here have a nexus with the drug mafia, who smuggle the poppy crops across the border.
The Manipur government has acknowledged the efforts of the public in fighting the drug menace.
He even awarded the residents of Peh (Paoyi) village in Ukhrul district with Rs 10 lakhs for voluntarily destroying poppy cultivations in and around the village.
