In their continued efforts against smuggling activities in Mizoram, Assam Rifles troops seized smuggled poppy seeds near Vangchhia area in the Champhai district.
On the basis of information, the Assam Rifles troops intercepted three trucks loaded with smuggled poppy seeds in the Vangchhia area and recovered the consignment.
Assam Rifles claimed the smuggled poppy seeds would cost approximately Rs 79 lakh in the open market.
The operation was carried out on March 13.
The carriers and recovered contraband were handed over to the concerned department, Assam Rifles said in a tweet.
“AssamRifles troops intercepted and recovered consignment of smuggled Poppy Seeds worth approx. Rs 79 Lakhs near Vangchhiain area(Champhai district ) on 13 March. Carriers and recovered contraband handed over to the concerned department,” Assam Rifles tweeted.
Earlier on March 10, Assam Rifles troops in Mizoram intercepted and recovered illegal consignment of smuggled areca nuts worth approximately Rs 89 lakhs near Champhai district.
The carrier and the recovered goods were later handed over to the customs department of Mizoram.
