Imphal: While Yaoshang/Holi celebrations are restricted to ritual ceremonies due to recent communal clashes, activists from the Arambai Tengol (AT), a Meitei socio-cultural organization, launched a new initiative in Imphal city, Manipur on Monday.

Focused on environmental cleanliness and sustainability, AT members began their clean-up drive on the second day of Yaoshang in Waheng Leikai, Sagolbandh Assembly constituency.

The campaign targeted waste disposal around the historic Imphal city humped bridge.

Leimaram Heroijit, an advisor to AT Unit 48, emphasized the importance of public hygiene and responsible waste disposal.

He urged residents to stop littering and called for the construction of public toilets to discourage public urination and spitting.

AT is one of several organizations that have limited Yaoshang festivities in the wake of communal clashes between Meiteis and Kukis that claimed over 222 lives. Yaoshang celebrations in Manipur traditionally last five days.
