Imphal: A total of 405 Manipuri Muslims, including 222 males and 183 females, received mandatory vaccinations today in preparation for the upcoming Haj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

The Manipur State Haj Committee, in collaboration with Family Welfare Services of the Government of Manipur, organized the vaccination drive at the Family Welfare Complex in Imphal on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

The intending pilgrims were administered meningitis, polio, and seasonal influenza vaccines. These vaccinations are mandatory for all Indian Haj pilgrims.

Manipur has secured 405 spots out of India’s total Haj quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims for 2024.

The Haj pilgrimage is a religious duty for Muslims that takes place annually in the Islamic holy city of Mecca during the Dhu al-Hijjah month. It involves several rituals, including circumambulating the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam.

The issuance of Haj visas for 2024 began on March 1 and closed on April 29.

Pilgrims are expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia on May 9, with the pilgrimage itself commencing on June 14th.
