Imphal: A 12-year-old boy and a woman were among three persons who lost their lives after drowning at the river, moat, and pond in different places of the Imphal West and East districts in Manipur during the past 36 hours, officials said on Wednesday.
A joint team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), personnel of the Manipur Fire Services, and police in the joint operation fished out the body of a 12-year-old boy at the Kongbam Irong in Imphal East district on Wednesday at around 8 am.

Longjam Kanta (12), a resident of Kakwa Lamdaibung in Imphal West district reportedly fell into the Imphal River at Kongba Irong section under Irilbung police station on Monday.

The body of a woman was also fished out by the Imphal police station personnel at the northern part of the Kangla moat at around 8 am on Wednesday.

The body is now at the mortuary of the RIMS hospital for identification and post-mortem, the police said.

Meanwhile, personnel of the fire services department have also recovered the body of one Khumanthem Jiten, 44, son of Kh (late) Tomba from a big pond at Maharabi Awang Leikai in Imphal East district.
He drowned in the local pond at around 9 pm on Tuesday. The body was later handed over to the relatives after post-mortem, the police added.
