Guwahati: A man was arrested at the Silchar Railway Station in Cachar, Assam for allegedly posing as a police official.
According to reports, the man was arrested by the Government Railway Police based on an input.

He was allegedly “extorting” money from certain vehicles on the pretext of requisition process, a report claimed.
The accused has been identified as Shreenath Shill of Silchar.

He introduced himself as an assistant sub-inspector of the Assam Police.
The GRP nabbed him as they were alerted about a possible scam.
On questioning him, he could not provide any documents or proof about him being a police official and hence, he was detained.

On further investigation, it was found that he was pretending to be a police officer to dupe people, a source said.
He was immediately arrested and an investigation has been initiated to find out if he was alone or was part of a larger racket.
