Guwahati: An office superintendent of the Excise Department was arrested for alleged bribery in Guwahati, Assam on Wednesday.
According to sources, the accused was arrested by a team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

He was arrested from near the main gate of Janata Bhawan (Assam Secretariat) in Dispur, Guwahati.

According to the sources, the accused officer was identified as Partha Hazarika.

He was nabbed as he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 24,500 in connection with a document proceeding for a bar licence.
It was alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 1 lakh for processing a bar license from a person and had already taken about Rs 40 thousand.

However, the person who was asked for the money was unwilling to pay the bribe had approached the police.
Sources also stated that despite taking the money, Hazarika failed to proceed with the documentation prompting the “victim” to approach the police.
Based on the complaint, the anti-corruption bureau laid a trap on Wednesday and arrested Hazarika as he was taking the demanded bribe from the complainant.
Following the arrest, the investigating team also raided Hazarika’s residence in the Jaya Nagar area of Guwahati.
An investigation has been initiated regarding the allegations put of the excise department official.
