Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday announced that a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh would be rewarded to singer Km Mandakini Takhellambam by the State Government in recognition of her talent and hard work.

Singer Km Mandakini Takhellambam, despite being visually impaired, had shown outstanding performance in a TV reality show.

Chief Minister N Biren made the announcement in Imphal while greeting the people of Manipur on the occasion of Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals.

While Diwali was celebrated on November 6 and 7, Ningol Chakkouba will be celebrated across the State on November 9.

He conveyed his best wishes while interacting with a group of media persons at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Wednesday.

N Biren also wished that the festival of lights Diwali may strengthen brotherhood in the State. He also prayed to the Almighty to bless the people of different communities to live together with unity.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister also extended his greetings to the people on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba.

The Chief Minister said that Ningol Chakkouba is no more a festival of Meitei/Meetei community alone.

Observing that the noble ideals of the festival are now acknowledged by everybody in the world, the Chief Minister said that it is now celebrated by different communities together leaving aside all the differences. He also wished that the festival may usher in prosperity and happiness in people’s lives.

Stating that it is encouraging to see that some civil society organisations have been celebrating the festival with diverse communities and different sections of people since the past few decades,he also wished the Civil society organisatuions for a grand and successful celebration this year as well.
