India’s Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who arrived in Assam on Tuesday to celebrate Diwali with army personnel and their families in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, distributed sweets among Army jawans at Dinjan in Dibrugarh and Hyulong in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
Defence Minister Sitharaman through the Twitter handle of the Defence Minister’s office wished a ‘Happy Diwali’ to everyone.
Earlier in the morning on Wednesday, before departing for Hyulong, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman celebrated Diwali with the Army troops in Dinjan and offered some sweets on the occasion.
The Defence Minister also celebrated Diwali with soldiers, their families and locals at Hyulong, Arunachal Pradesh.
In a video, uploaded on the official Twitter handle of the Defence Minister on Wednesday, Sitharaman is seen interacting with Army jawans at Hyulong in Arunachal Pradesh and distributing sweets among them on the occasion of Diwali – a festival of lights.
Sitharaman was greeted by village elders of the local Mishmi tribe of Hyulong, who conferred their blessings on the occasion of Diwali. They also felicitated her with a traditional shawl.

On arrival at Chabua in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Tuesday, the defence Minister was received by General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen. MM Naravane and General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps (3 Corps), Lt Gen Gopal R.
She then proceeded to the headquarters of the second Mountain Division at Dinjan in the district where she was briefed by army officials on the security situation in Upper Assam and operational preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
At Dinjan, she also interacted with veer naris (war widows) and ex-servicemen and distributed sweets.
