Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Gaikhangam on Wednesday said that the ensuing Lok Sabha election is a fight to regain people’s rights.
Gaikhangam said this while addressing a election campaign rally for the Congress candidate of Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency, K James.
Gaikhangam who is also a Congress Working Committee member appealed to the people to vote for the Congress and preserve their rights.
While coming down heavily on both the BJP led governments at the Centre and in State, the former Manipur Deputy Chief Minister said that the fight in this Lok Sabha election is not between the Congress and the BJP, but between the people and the saffron party.
Speaking on the same vein, Congress Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh alleged that the present State Government has been taking the credit for the works initiated by the erstwhile Congress government.
Ibobi Singh also exuded confidence that the Congress candidate would get support from the public in the eight Assembly constituencies of the valley under the Outer Parliamentary constituency (reserved for ST).
Several Congress legislators and other important office-bearers attended the campaign rally on Wednesday.
Later, interacting with media, Congress candidate K James reaffirmed his commitment to work for the weaker sections of the society if he is voted to power.
O Ibobi Singh who was also present in the media interaction also said that if the party comes to power in the 17th Lok Sabha election, Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY), a minimum income guarantee scheme which has been conceived by a team of leading economists will be implemented that will eradicate poverty in the country.
He further claimed that the scheme will be the world’s largest poverty eradication measure ever existed.
