Election activities gain momentum in Manipur; training for poll personnel held

Electioneering activities and regular training of polling personnel and randomization of polling equipment are on in a war footing manner for the 17th Lok Sabha polls in Manipur.

Polling for the two Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held on April 11 and 18 next.

On Monday, the district election office of Tamenlong conducted the first phase of training for the presiding officers and polling officers of Tamenlong district for the upcoming 17th Lok Sabha election at Mini Indoor Stadium and DYASO hall, Tamenlong district headquarters, 150 km west of Imphal.

Master trainers namely SDOs Paotinsei Kipgen(Tousem), Namlalalung Gangmei(Noney), Robertson Asem(Tamei), Kachamthai Gangmei(Tamenglong) thoroughly explained about how to operate, EVMs, VVPAT machines and explain about the counting unit to all the polling personal who attended the training.

Altogether 274 polling personnel attended the first phase of training. Handbook containing all the information of election do’s and don’ts was also distributed to all the polling personal who attended the training.

On the other hand as the notification is out for the Outer Parliamentary constituency of Manipur for the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the first randomization of EVMs and VVPATs for three Assembly constituencies – Saitu, Saikul and Kangpokpi of Kangpokpi district was conducted in the presence of the deputy commissioner who is also the district election officer Lalithambigai K, ADC Lalramsang Infimate, AROs/SDOs; Election Officer Kangpokpi and representatives of political parties at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner, Kangpokpi district headquarters,45 km north of Imphal.

Deputy commissioner Lalithambigai K stated that after the first randomization, the DC’s strong room will be opened and the EVMs and VVPATs will be taken to the respective Assembly constituencies’ strong rooms and will be sealed again.

The second randomization will be fixed after the filing of nomination papers.

Before the randomization, a meeting with representatives of political parties was also held at the same venue where the DC/DEO enlightened them about the process of randomization EVM and VVPAT.

The strong room at the district headquarters was also opened in the presence DC/DEO, ADC/ADM, concerned AROs, election officer, nodal officers and members of political parties.

Meanwhile, training programme for EVMs and VVPATs for the presiding officers and polling officers was also continued at the multipurpose hall of the deputy commissioner by the master trainer/SDO Kangpokpi, of the district Imoshana Sorokhaibam.
